Kristen Weaver has photographed weddings since 2009, from her home city of Orlando to North America, the Caribbean and Australia, on digital and 35mm film.
Approach
The studio opened in 2009 out of three things that have not changed since: a real interest in the people in front of the camera, a liking for solving the problem a day actually presents, and a long-running love of fashion. Every wedding has its own tempo and its own feeling, and the work is about getting that on film rather than arranging it.
Digital and 35mm film are shot side by side, which is where the nostalgic quality comes from without losing the bold color. Nobody is stiffly posed. The fashion background turns into direction instead: prompts and cues that give couples something to do, so what ends up in the frame is a real interaction rather than a held smile.
Travel has shaped a good deal of it. Weddings have taken the studio across North America, the Caribbean and Australia, and seeing how differently love is celebrated from one place to the next is most of the reason the passport stays out. All kinds of love are welcome here.
